A Reason To Gather
Dzaynbokx- 2026
whenever a cow is slaughtered, a ceremony is about to begin. This piece captures that quiet, symbolic moment in Nigeria, when the act itself signals that people will soon gather, to share food, story, and meaning. It's less about the slaughter itself and more about the cultural rhythm, the communal anticipation. And for your website and store, a shorter version- A mixed-media work that reflects a quiet cultural prelude, where the slaughter of a cow signals that a communal gathering is near. Rooted in Nigerian tradition, the piece invites viewers to consider ritual, community, and the unseen bonds that bring people together.

The Legacy We Leave Behind
Dzaynbokx - 2026
The Legacy We Leave Behind speaks to the quiet truth that every life eventually leaves a space behind. The figure is no longer seated, yet their presence lingers on the wall as a shadow, a gentle reminder that although people may leave, something of them can remain. At the heart of the work is the flower pot. The flower represents the legacy of the person who once occupied that chair: something they planted, nurtured, and left behind to continue growing. It is not a monument to absence, but a symbol of continuity. The shadow tells us someone was here. The flower tells us they left something behind.Perhaps that is what legacy truly means, not simply being remembered, but leaving something living enough to touch another life, long after we are gone.Because in the end, we may leave the chair, but what we planted can keep blooming.

Destiny in the Dust
Dzaynbokx — 2026
Four boys chase a ball down a dusty village street, completely lost in the moment. But look closer, and their shadows tell a different story, four separate shadows, stretched long and dark behind them, each one running its own path. They're playing the same game, chasing the same ball, but the shadows hint that where each of them ends up may not be the same at all.
Above the rooftops, the sky isn't behaving like a normal evening sky. It's burning, deep orange bleeding into black smoke, while life below carries on as if nothing's wrong. And it's not just the players caught up in it. Two children linger nearby, watching. A man stands quietly by his bicycle, parked at the corner of his house, his eyes on the match instead of anywhere else. Another man stands in his doorway, watching too. A woman shelling greens looks up as well, her hands slowing as she takes in the game. The whole street has paused, if only for a moment, to watch these boys play, maybe seeing in them the same wide-open possibility every child on that street once carried. That's really what this painting is about: four boys, one ball, and a hundred different futures already taking shape behind them. One shadow might lead to a stadium. Another might lead somewhere far quieter. Right now, in this moment, none of that matters, they're just playing. But the painting doesn't let you forget that childhood is the one point where every path still feels open, before life quietly starts choosing for you.
Painted in warm earth tones against a dramatic, fiery sky, Destiny in the Dust is the kind of piece that gives you something new each time you look at it. It's not just a picture of children playing, it's a reminder that the future doesn't arrive all at once, and it doesn't arrive the same way twice.

Artist's Note
I've watched boys play football like this more times than I can count, that total, uncomplicated joy of chasing a ball down a dirt street, where nothing else in the world matters for those few minutes. I wanted to paint that feeling honestly. But I also wanted to paint what I think we all sense but rarely say out loud: that even in that moment of pure play, each child is already walking toward a different life.
That's why the shadows mattered so much to me in this piece. Four boys, one ball, but four separate shadows stretched out behind them, because I don't believe childhood promises everyone the same ending. Some of those paths lead somewhere bright. Others don't. None of the boys running through this scene know which one is theirs yet, and that not-knowing is exactly what I wanted to hold onto.
The sky came from a feeling more than a memory, that sense of something larger gathering just beyond what we're paying attention to. I didn't want it to feel like a disaster painting. I wanted it to feel like life does most of the time: ordinary things happening in the foreground, while something much bigger quietly builds in the background, mostly unnoticed. The woman shelling her greens, the man by his bicycle, the man in his doorway, the children watching from a distance, they're all caught in that same in-between. Present, but not quite looking up yet.
I called it "Destiny in the Dust" because I think that's where most of our futures actually start, not in some grand, cinematic moment, but in ordinary dust, in ordinary play, long before we understand what we're really running toward.

ARTIST’S NOTE
“I created Unbent because some stories deserve to be remembered, not only through words, but through something that can stand in a room and continue telling the story long after we are gone.
For me, this work represents the strength to remain yourself when life gives you every reason not to.
It is about resilience. It is about identity. It is about refusing to be reduced by what you have endured.
That is what Unbent means to me.”

ROOTS OF A NATION
Unbent is part of an ongoing project titled Roots of a Nation, a body of work exploring, documenting, and preserving the histories, identities, traditions, and enduring spirit of Nigeria’s major cultural groups through art.
Each work within the project stands independently, telling the story of a particular people while contributing to a larger visual archive of Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
THE STORY BEHIND THE WORK
UNBENT
DZAYNBOKX - 2026
There are stories that are written in books, and there are stories that live in people.
Unbent was created as a visual archive of the unyielding spirit, the kind of resilience passed from one generation to another.
The work reflects the ability to endure without surrendering identity.
It speaks to people who have faced pressure, loss, uncertainty and opposition, yet somehow found the strength to continue.
For me, Unbent is not simply about surviving hardship. It is about what remains after hardship has tried to change you.
You may be tested.
You may be stretched.
You may be wounded.
But you do not have to bend.
